Position Summary:

The Thin Film Coating Engineer supports coating processes, including design of optical coatings, metrology and measurement and process development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs new thin film coatings for production and development

  • Creates new coating processes and optimizes existing coating processes

  • Supports scheduling activities for deposition of coatings

  • Translates customer specifications into procedures, designs, and work instructions

  • Identifies and drives implementation of technology and capability development for coating in support of technology roadmap

  • Model impact of changes to coating chamber parameters to support capability development

  • Works with Coating Technicians to ensure proper set-ups and reviews of coating designs for release to manufacturing

  • Solves problems in coating production by working with production and maintenance teams

  • Provides costing and manufacturability guidance to sales for quoting

  • Assists and consults with operations, sales and customers regarding new and existing products

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Perform advanced mathematical modeling and calculations

Professional, Technical and Educational Requirements:

  • B.S. in Physics, Optics, Engineering, or related science field. Advanced degrees preferred.

  • Four or more years’ experience in optical coating/thin-film deposition processes in a manufacturing environment

  • Extensive knowledge of high vacuum systems, Evaporation and Sputtering technology

  • Familiar with data analysis tools

  • Strong understanding of material science

  • Demonstrated experience with coating design and modeling software

  • Background and experience in project management a plus

  • Experience in standardized problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, etc) a plus

  • This position requires all applicants to be U.S. Persons

Compensation Information:

Salary Range: From $85k annually

Bonus: This position is eligible for company discretionary bonus
