IDEX High Energy Laser Business Development Manager (Remote) in United States

Position Summary:

The High Energy Laser (HEL) Business Development Manager is directly accountable for achieving the sales targets for the High Energy Laser initiative. Success in this position is ultimately measured by the effective identification and successful conversion of new opportunities in the High Energy Laser Market to support aggressive Sales growth targets for Advanced Thin Films (ATF).

Location: This position can either be remote based within the United States or sit at the ATF site in Boulder, CO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with Director of Business Development, define the annual sales targets for existing customers in the High Energy Laser and Space Laser Communications markets

  • Define annual volume forecast for each customer, program, and project based on publicly available information, customer feedback, and prior years’ experience

  • Convert established product families with existing customers based on depth of established relationships and familiarity with ATF’s current offerings

  • Identify and convert new opportunities based on ability to represent ATF’s capability and reputation, along with familiarity with technology needs of the market

  • Oversee preparation and submission of quotes and proposals for assigned customers, programs, and opportunities

  • Engage deeply with engineering personnel at both ATF and customer side to maximize chances of successful conversion

  • Ensure that documents submitted to customers are consistent with requirements and written in such a way as to maximize chances for success

  • Identify new opportunities for ATF technology development to expand addressable market share

  • Through customer meetings, attendance at conferences, trade shows, and academic talks, and reading of professional and academic literature, identify new technologies, products, or capabilities that are currently lacking sufficient market support

  • Participate in the preparation of business case justifications to enable the growth and establishment of needed capabilities at ATF

  • Use highly organized mindset and deep integration with Ops and Planning teams at ATF to ensure that strategic customers in High Energy Laser market are receiving regular and accurate updates on status of current work-in-progress in the factory.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional, Technical and Educational Requirements:

The ideal candidate has the following characteristics:

  • 4 or more years of experience in an Engineering or Sales Engineering role within lasers or optics field

  • 1 or more years experience in a Technical Sales/ Business Development role within lasers or optics field

  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to identify a “black swan” when it appears in a formal or informal discussion

  • Basic computer skills required, including facility with Microsoft Office; experience with custom CRM and ERP systems is preferred

  • A bachelor’s degree in STEM field with advanced academic work highly preferred

  • Proven ability to effectively work cross-functionally in a high-tech organization

  • Proven ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in order to satisfy both internal and external demands on time and resources

  • Travel of 35% or more is expected

This position may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship, US Permanent Residence or ability to meet contract-specific licensure requirements.

Compensation Information:

Base Salary Range: Starting from $95K+, will depend on prior experience

Bonus: This position is eligible for company discretionary bonus of 10%+/-
