JOB TITLE: Laser Technician

REPORTING TO: Manufacturing Manager, Lasers

LOCATION: West Henrietta, NY


These positions may require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident.

The Laser Technician will be a key resource for the team, contributing to development and optimization of manufacturing processes for laser assembly and training of production staff. This individual will also work to assemble, align, test, and calibrate lasers. This role will require the individual to work in a fast-paced clean room environment. The Laser Technician will participate on the team to optimize and deploy new products and automation to the manufacturing department. This individual is expected to have a knowledge of and experience with optical systems and high-tech manufacturing. The successful candidate will be required to quickly master new manufacturing process, assist in continual improvement of our processes, and train other technicians and production staff.   • Optical table-top setup and alignment

  • Detectors, system tests, and data acquisition

  • Developing new manufacturing processes

  • Trouble shooting and failure analysis

  • Assembly and alignment of lasers and subassemblies

  • Test station and equipment set-up

  • Unit adjustment, alignment and calibration

  • Troubleshooting and repair of sub-assembly failures

  • Opto-mechanical assembly according to work instructions

  • Inspection of optical sub-assemblies

  • Failure analysis of failed sub-assemblies or lasers


  • Associates degree in relevant field or 4 years work experience and training in relevant field

  • Basic computer skills

  • Proficient mathematics skills – add, subtract, multiply and divide

  • Experience deploying technology to manufacturing

  • Experience working in lean value streams


  • Strong work ethic

  • Excels at performing repetitive tasks

  • Able to learn new skills and job functions

  • Works well in a team environment

  • Visual acuity and the ability to distinguish chromatic colors

  • Good manual dexterity

  • May require standing or sitting for extended periods of time

  • Occasional light lifting

  • This position is a site-based role.
