REPORTING TO: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

LOCATION: West Henrietta, NY

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be a key resource for the operations team focused on maintaining the stability, and continuously improving the optical filters and optical systems operations. The engineer will work with other process development, quality, and R&D engineers as well as with the production teams to achieve the goals of the department. The Manufacturing Engineer will be part of the high-performance Manufacturing Engineering team to optimize and deploy new products to the factory. This engineer is expected to quickly master new technologies, optimize the technologies, document processes, and train technicians and production staff to properly execute the processes. The Engineer will work with the Quality team to investigate and initiate corrective action to manufacturing problems arising in the manufacture of one or more of the following: optical, mechanical, and electrical components, and more complex optical assemblies and systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Key success factors will be increasing process efficiencies and sustaining the internal production yields

  • This position will be a daily resource to assist the production team with trouble shooting of manufacturing issues

  • Make data driven decisions to improve process capability and cycle times

  • Responsibilities will include process ownership, root cause analysis, first article review, new part manufacturing setup, continuous improvement and process development projects

  • Key success factors will be effective communication, minimizing unplanned equipment downtime, improving manufacturing processes and maintaining internal production yields

  • Perform optical table-top setup and alignment

  • Ability to implement equipment & procedures necessary to assemble, test, and contribute to the manufacture of high-performance imaging systems

  • Experience with assembly and testing using optical test equipment in manufacturing environment

  • Knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment such as power meters, spectrum analyzers, interferometers, CCD/CMOS cameras, and photodiodes

  • Understand alignment/manufacturing capabilities by measuring process outputs and conducting data analysis

  • Developing new manufacturing processes

  • Deploy Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC) tools

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in an optical, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or a related discipline

  • 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing capacity

  • Demonstrated ability in efficiently presenting data

  • High intellectual curiosity and demonstrated problem solving ability

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Proficient in statistical analysis

  • Proficient with reading and understanding mechanical and optical drawings

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interface with all levels of the organization

  • Experience updating process documentation and release to manufacturing

  • Experience conducting and leading root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects
